Making A Difference In Guatemala
As we all know, food costs have risen dramatically every where
including the communities in the Lake Atitlan area of Guatemala. In the
past it had been estimated that roughly 50% of the population in
Guatemala suffered from malnutrition. Today I hate to even think about
how high that percentage may go with these prices still on the rise and
the scarcity of corn in recent months. The poverty rates are even higher
Many live on $1.00-$2.00 a day.
We have been supplying children at the Pre-schools with daily vitamins in hopes of heading off malnutrition. We now reach more than 200 children throughout 6 pre-schools in the villages of San Jorge de la Laguna, Panajachel, El Barranco, Tierra Linda, San Andres and San Antonio.
